Monitoring cetaceans along the southeastern Brazilian coast

The Cetaceans Monitoring Project in the Santos Basin (from Portuguese: Projeto de Monitoramento de Cetáceos na Bacia de Santos - PMC-BS) has the main objective of evaluating oil and gas activities impacts on cetaceans in the Santos Basin. The area of about 250.000 km² is located in southeastern Brazilian coast. Aerial and maritime line-transacts surveys and telemetry campaigns are carried out semiannually. The Project still addresses methodologies such as photo-ID, photogrammetry, biopsying, passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and tagging and tracking whales and dolphins with satellite and radio transmitters

Collaboration : photographer, drone pilot, radio transmitter programmer and operator, tagger trainee and boat pilot
