Spatial overlap between cetaceans and fisheries in Brazilian waters

Spatial overlap between cetaceans and fisheries in Brazilian waters

Study developed from a database provided by the Cetaceans Monitoring Project in the Santos Basin

Authors : M. Caiaffa, L. Wedekin and F. Daura-Jorge

The study seeks to identify areas and cetacean species of high gillnet by-catch risk in the Santos Basin, southeastern Brazilian coast. 14 cetacean species were included in the analysis. Identifying and describing potential negative interactions between cetaceans and fisheries provides useful tools for fisheries management and conservation of cetaceans
